2008-05-31-19:45 - New Delegate Math
The new delegate math is much like the old delegate math. The DNC rules committee has voted and seated delegates from Michigan and Florida. They get 1/2 votes and there was some shuffling of who gets what percentage.
To get a majority of the delegates Obama needs to win 64 out of the remaining 291 delegates (86 pledged delegate + 205 super delegates)[1]. That is 64/291 = 22.0% Which means Clinton would need to win 78.0%. I trust you can draw your own conclusion as to how that works out for the nomination.
Now for some opining. I think this is a good decision. It means the party activist from Florida and Michigan get to go to the convention. But it does it in a way that doesn't change the out come of the race and also penalizes the states in a way that will make other states reluctant to try the same stunt in future years. This is a small step in the direction of kicking New Hampshire and Iowa off their pedestals.
[1] The site I link to regularly updates the delegate count. So expect the totals to go down if you follow the link a day or two later.
>>let me tell you this about that!
